Ring Member Bios

Rick Matis – Keys, Vocals, Band Leader

Rick Matis, founder and leader of The Border, learned at an early historic period that beautiful music can lift one's emotions and lift the heart. He noticed ane day while practicing for his grandparents how they were moved to tears at hearing some of their all-fourth dimension favorite tunes. If his music could create this touch, imagine what sound could exist produced with a group of exceptionally talented vocalists and musicians!

Suzanne Gibson – Female Pb Vocals

Suzanne Gibson is a versatile and high free energy vocal performer, known for her expressive phrasing, sincere presentation and approachable stage presence. Listen to her skillfully perform many unlike styles of top-xl music, including but not limited to Stone, Pop, Funk, Disco, Motown, Country, Soul, R&B and more. Suzanne has been associated with many musical groups during her singing career including dance bands like the Jerry Bruno Orchestra, Tony Camerato Band, Out of LA, Dan Zola Big Band Orchestra, various jazz ensembles and more than. Very involved at her church building, Suzanne continues to sing regularly as cantor at mass. She also performs as a ceremony singer for more traditional settings, has recorded on various projects and commercials, and is actively now didactics Zumba Dance Fitness. No matter the venue, big or small, serious or fun, Suzanne's main goal is to always provide you with a professional person experience and quality vocals.

Bob Miller – Bass Guitar, Male Lead Vocals

Bob has been playing bass with Rick and Mike, since 1983. Bob's musical roots begin with several stone bands, starting in the late '70s – through the mid '80's. Providing strong atomic number 82 and harmony vocals, from James Chocolate-brown to James Taylor, Bob enjoys a multifariousness of vocal challenges and has the ability to sound like many of the singers on the original recordings. Bob has besides provided bass and backing vocals on recordings for diverse local artists.
"I think our force is being able to play a huge variety of musical styles – in a very authentic style. If we play a rock song, nosotros sound like a rock band – if we play a jazz tune, nosotros sound like a jazz ring – if nosotros play a polka, we sound similar a stone band (just kidding!) We actually are a very musically flexible band."

Sax, Percussion, Vocals, and Rhythm Guitar

The multi-talented Mike Molchan was born and raised on the North Coast and has been with The Edge since its inception. He plays tenor, alto and soprano saxes too as the Yamaha X11 midi wind controller (that's a synthesizer). Mike is besides a wonderful vocalizer, performing lead and dorsum-up vocals throughout the night. His vocals enable the ring to produce amazingly beautiful 4-role harmonies! Major influences include Lenny Pickett (Sat Dark Live Band), Michael Brecker and Gato Barbieri (early seventy's but).

Jeff Kennant – Drums

From Music Director on cruise ships to teaching percussion at a music studio, to performing in several premier local bands – Jeff has done information technology all! Jeff has played with many local hymeneals bands including TCB and even so does a three-piece jazz trio in his costless fourth dimension! Jeff brings a huge amount of energy and versatility to the drums (and to the band), which translates into a busy dance flooring!

Dan Portik – Guitar and vocals

Our original guitar player is back! With over thirty years of musical experience, Dan brings strong rhythm and lead guitar abilities, also as strong lead and backing vocals to the band. A "rocker" by nature, he can also accommodate to a broad diversity of musical styles. Dan also creates and produces much of the background music for the corporate videos his visitor produces. Dan's stage energy and bulldoze contribute greatly to the crowded dance floors.[/tab]

WOW! This band is the best! They play a variety of music and their band leader, Rick, made sure that he got all our music preferences/requests. The Band that keeps the Party Rolling

Had the absolute pleasance of having Rick and his crew as our wedding ring. Rick was professional, helpful and extremely patient as I asked many questions out of his telescopic. He was very accommodating to make final infinitesimal changes for small-scale details that I had disregarded. He had a thorough questionnaire that helped me really recall through what I needed to include.
The Border was amazing. Our trip the light fantastic toe floor was full all nighttime. The song selection was very extensive and nosotros just chose the ones nosotros liked the most. Our guests gushed about the band and the quality and I can say the same, the value was fabulous! I truly tin can't say enough about this group. I would say that this is a band that covers ALL ages and was exactly what we wanted. Their variety of oldies, Motown, pop, was perfect.
